Science Experiment

I got this idea from another blog that I read, Chasing Cheerios, and have been dying to try it out with Sylvie! And as I expected, she loved it. I really highly recommend this activity, even Nicole (10 yrs) got a kick out of it.

First I took food coloring and put a few drops in 6 glasses, using all 6 colors of the rainbow. I then lined them up for Sylvie and asked her to guess what color was in each one. She got most of them right, but was confused with the yellow, she thought it looked orange. (and it did!)

Next I gave her a little measuring cup filled with water and had her pour it in each glass, watching the color appear before her eyes.

She was pretty excited to see the yellow water appear.

The purple looked a little reddish, so here she is questioning me about it. "Is this PURPLE, Mom? Like The Count?" I had to convince her that yes, it was purple, just a reddish purple. She was a little perplexed but rolled with it!

After she checked out all the water and commented on all of the colors, she poured each cup into a big tub. We talked about the colors as it changed with each new addition. I think this was her favorite part.
