Painting

Yesterday was a long day, John was stuck in 3 hours of traffic trying to get home, I was stuck at work with the baby (who had not taken a nap) and by the time bedtime rolled around we were all a little cranky and ready to say goodnight. I had planned on taking Sylvie to movie time at the library today, but she had a pretty rough night and woke up several times. She ended up sleeping until about 9:15 this morning, and before she was even up I had decided to nix the library and just spend the morning hanging out at home. It was very rainy and very cold, and I thought we'd watch a movie at home instead. Well, much to my happy surprise, Sylvie woke up in a terrific mood. We had english muffins and grapes for breakfast and then went into our usual routine of reading books. I was about to pop on a movie when Sylvie mentioned her painting from our class yesterday. And I remembered that just last week I bought a nice set of washable (key word) paints and new paint brushes. So I stripped her down to a diaper, cleared the table and covered the floor with a splat mat, and we went to town!

I thought we could do a Valentine painting, so I brought out the red, pink, purple and white paints. Sylvie loved the little paint palate, so much so that within about a minute we had 1 very lovely shade of paint, a nice reddish-pinkish-purpleish tone. :) Syl enjoyed trying out different paint brushes and then decided to try using her fingers instead. Which of course immediately led to painting surfaces other than the paper.

And hey, the brushes worked on her arms too!

Getting every nook and cranny:

And what is this expression all about? Is she all of a sudden surprised that she has paint all over her? I'm not falling for it Syl!

This was the precise moment that I announced "BATHTIME!"

And like the sweet little devil that she can sometimes be, when I went to carefully lift her from the chair to bring her to the tub she totally flashed me this mischievous grin below. So I said "Sylvie, why are you smiling like that, what are you doing?" To which she replied "I painting the chair, Mommy."

hey, at least she used actual paint on the chair. when mindy and i were sylvie's age, we decided to paint the walls in our bedroom like we had seen our daddy do...except we used our dirty diapers.
