And of course, the dogs were dressed up in matching tutus as well:

We had an impossible time getting her to pose for pictures, because hey a butterfly fairy just needs to be on the move, communing with nature, man. There are trees to hug and flowers to smell and leaves to count. I guess she had a profound understanding that this whole woodland fairy thing probably wasn't going to be an everyday occurence, and she wasn't wasting a minute on posing for the camera.

When we finally explained the whole trick-or-treating thing to Sylvie she seemed a little intrigued. Candy? If I knock on that door? Sounds good! Of course the realization that a person, a stranger mind you, was behind the door and the key to actually getting the candy, well that just brought the whole thing to a dead halt. We thought maybe she'd feel better about knocking on Grandma's door, so we could show her how the whole thing works in a more familiar setting.

And it worked! She did it! And she loved it! And she sat right down on the sidewalk in front of Grandma's house and opened her candy to eat it right then and there. And then walked back to the door to get more candy from Grandma. Repeat. A couple of times. We tried to get her to trick-or-treat at Grandma's neighbor's house, but Sylvie wasn't interested and wanted no part of it. She kept looking at me saying "Meah-ma? Candy? Trick Treat?" And I guess she figured while she had my attention she may as well throw in a "Elmo? Watch?" (nice try kid!)
By this point John was getting home so we decided to meet him there and hang out on the stoop, waiting for trick-or-treaters.

Sylvie loved it. She loved the kids, she loved the action, she loved hanging with Daddy. And most of all, she loved the candy.

Well, from the back her costume looks nice..........looking forward to a front shot. Trick or treating was very light in my neighborhood.....I have SO much leftover candy. (Get thee behind me, Satan!)
Winnie, am I supposed to believe that you didn't purposely over-buy the candy? We all know how you feel about your candy! And hey, let us know if you need Sylvie to come help out with it, I think after her experience today it's safe to use the term "candy junkie".
Aunt Edith, I think you probably meant to post that comment to today's post, so I'm just going to move it here. I'm so glad you guys are enjoying the blog! :)
Today Chris & Crystal both looked over Slyvie's page. They both nearly enjoyed it as much as I do. It's the last thing I check at night, and I have actually caught myself smiling as I go to sleep.
Looks like you all had a happy Halloween.
cuuuute!! looks like she played her role as butterfly fairy well!!!!love the coordinating doggie costumes, too! what candy did sylvie like the best? We had HUNDREDS of kids last night! made me remember the excitement. love you
Oh, she looked adorable! She'll catch on eventually, and will get to know that even if she doesn't know the people whose door she has knocked on, they will give her some candy for her halloween bag, and she can safely accept it with no strings attached! Yikes! you caught on to my scheme of over-buying the candy! (I'll save some for Sylvie) Loved the 2 dogs in their costumes, too. Wonder if any of the neighbor's doors that were knocked on thought to have some dog treats to give away. . That would have gone over good!
What a nice Halloween. I wish i was a kid all over again. Love the picture of Sylvie with her Dad and the one her mouth is covered with chocolate. She is precious.
Sylvie! You are such a beautiful big girl now.
