Shaaaahks!

Today we visited the Boston Aquarium!! (and while I'd love to take credit for this entry's title it's actually from the banner hanging above the aquarium entrance - who knew those Massholes had such a sense of humor?) In any event, we were wicked excited to be there!

Uncle Mike took it upon himself to show Sylvie every nook and cranny of the place (I already loved him a ton, but the man really won a permanent place in this mom's heart with all the Sylvie-wrangling). Anyway, here he is showing Sylvie a couple of angel fish.

Which reminds me, has everyone heard the story of my brother Kris giving my angel fish a cup of hot chocolate one cold winter morning? I was in high school, Kris was probably around 3? And he was convinced that the fish was 1. cold and 2. thirsty. The fish tank was on top of a very tall dresser, and yet he somehow managed to climb up there and pour an entire mug of cocoa in with the fish. I got home from school and he immediately ran up to me to tell me what he had done. He knew something was wrong, I'm guessing by the mirky brown water and floating dead fish. Poor kid, it really traumatized him and he continued to apologize to me about that fish for years and years afterward.

Later Mike took Sylvie in to the discovery section of the aquarium, where kids can get down and dirty with some of the sea creatures and observe how they feel, smell, wiggle around in their fingers, etc. It was really cute, but REALLY crowded. I literally had to fight my way in, all elbows, just to snap these few pictures.

Later on in the afternoon we stumbled upon this great playground, where the adults looked on in total envy as Sylvie got to splash and frolick away the sticky muggy heat.
