Singing in the rain

It's been raining for the past two days, and the forecast is calling for a very rainy weekend. We are thrilled! For me, I'm getting a much needed break from an excruciating allergy season. John is excited because rainy days usually mean lots of time with all three of us snuggling under the covers watching movies. And Sylvie's just beside herself because she got to wear her big yellow boots and play with her umbrella. Simple pleasures!

We keep the umbrella in our front hallway, and every single day when we get the mail she picks it up and asks if she can play with it. And every day I have to explain to her that umbrellas are just for the rain, that it's too big to play with inside, I then distract her with the mail and we go about our business. Except for today.

Unfortunately for Sylvie, the walk to the car is a short one, and while she was busy playing with the umbrella I was getting soaking wet, and thus anxious to get her and her new "toy" in the car. She just wanted to stay outside jumping in puddles and twirling the umbrella around, and couldn't understand why I was cutting her playtime so short. She had a bit of a meltdown, poor kid.

Maybe tomorrow we'll all spend some time outside splashing around in the puddles.
