Outgrown

Today I cleaned out Sylvie's closet and dresser. This is the pile of clothes and toys that she's outgrown. On the one hand her dresser and closet feel sooooo nice and light and organized, but on the other hand, waaaaah. My baby's growing up. Sylvie was at the store doing grocery shopping with John while I stayed home to finish this project, and as soon as she walked in she ran over and exclaimed "Mommy! Look at the baby toys!!" She played with them for a few minutes and then I told her that it was time for her nap. "No. I playing with baby toys." It was bittersweet to clean this stuff out, but her room really does feel so much more spacious now!

And here's a cute little anecdote from tonight. I was cleaning up her room before bedtime and noticed that the Cookie Monster figurine was missing from her Sesame Street playset. I'm kinda neurotic about stuff like that, so I always have a running tally in my head of AWOL toys. So she went to bed and I went about cleaning up the house and getting things ready for tomorrow. I was putting her dollhouse people back when I found, to my happy surprise (one less toy on the AWOL list!) Cookie Monster making a guest appearance in the dollhouse. This is exactly how I found him:

So let me give a brief explanation of the scene. Cookie Monster is in the bathroom of the dollhouse, standing on a chair and washing his hands at the sink. The chair is from the kitchen. This is just so cute to me, because at some point every single day Sylvie asks if she can drag one of the kitchen chairs over to the sink so she can wash her hands, wash the dishes, or some variation of the two. So I love that she put this little scene together, of something she herself loves to do. And why Cookie Monster? Why not Bert or Big Bird? I wish I could get inside her brain for a second and see how it works.

What imagination! Wouldn't you have loved to be there to see her arranging all of this. Bet she was pleased with herself when this was all done.

Oh! What precious memories you are making.
Also, maybe you could just ask why Cookie Monster is washing his hands, I would also love to know what she was thinking.
