Here's a brief recap of our day:
This pic was taken at 1501...the exact minute of her birth. We took a similar one last year in Philly on Spring Garden Ave. This year's was taken on our Main Street.

Kacey and I got Sylvie a tricycle for her birthday. I put it together last night...the box said "Adult Assembly Required." The absence of the word "Some" and the inclusion of the word "Adult" made me nervous, but it really wasn't that bad. She's all business on this thing. And she even invited Big Bird along for a ride (in the "trunk").

Later on, the florist rang the doorbell with a delivery. Meemah Kathy ordered Sylvie a wonderful bouquet of helium filled balloons. Big hit! She loves them. Kacey and I decided to take her outside to get some cute pics. This was the beginning of a little birthday adventure.

Actually, THIS was the beginning of the adventure. The balloons were weighted down by a little plastic heart, but as it turns out, if you throw the bunch of balloons up in the air, this little plastic heart is no match for a mild breeze. This is what happens.

And this was our reaction (Kacey, taking this photo, didn't know what was going on yet)

Below is the same pic, close up on my face. Let's just say this isn't my best angle, but it's pretty funny. I'm shocked. And I'm thinking that I'm in big trouble. I'm also muttering things under my breath that I would not dare post here on a baby blog...I believe in North Carolina, they're referred to as "cussin' words."

Here's Sylvie saying "Where balloons go?!?! What happen balloons?!?!" I'm not in this photo because I took off running.

Some choppy video of the incident to follow shortly. There was a happy ending. The bouquet came down in a parking lot about 3 blocks away and with a running jump, I was able to snag them. Daddy saved the day after almost ruining it. Phew.
Here's Sylvie's Cookie Monster cake. It's kind of a Farrell family tradition. I think it came out quite well!

Below is a pic from 01/15/07 for reference.

Here's a pic from today. My oh my. Sylvie is no longer a baby...she's a little girl! She'll always be a baby to me, though!

Happy Birthday baby!

Great family pictures. Sylvie has grown and yes Kace, she will always be your little baby. Ask my mom.:) I love the two pictures of JH with Syl walking. Last year he is all bent over to hold her hand, and this year he is almost straight up. Didn't Syl grow? All pics are adorable. We wish we were there to chase the baloons with Daddy, Look at his face? Sweet!
Love Grampy and Steppy.
Priceless! The post - John, your writing skills truly have the reader right by your side as the event(s) unfold. You make Tuesday Guest Blogger Night an eagerly anticipated event - don't know, though, that you'll ever be able to top this one. And, John? I truly was L-ingOL. The pics - are perfect; I love the reference pic of last year, kinda bittersweet, ya know? And the star of the day? Can she be any cuter? And can she be any luckier to have you two for parents? : ) xoxo P.S. - Save me a piece of that cake!
Happy B-Day to Sylvie. looks like you guys had a great time. I love the look on John and Sylvie’s faces when the balloons went in the air- good thing John rescued them. I know the outcry of a 2 year old quite well...ha, ha..good to avoid it if you can.
Beautiful pictures! And, I'm so glad the balloons finally came down to earth........you're a lifesaver in the eyes of your daughter! I love her new tricycle, and I'm sure she's going to have many happy days riding it. Glad her birthday was so special......she's a special little girl!
I really can't get over the difference between the two pictures of John and Sylvie walking. What's stranger is that even when faced with such clear cut evidence that our sweet baby Sylvie is becoming such a little girl, I can't see her as anything but my little baby. Maybe this is how it's going to be from here on out? When she's 18 and going off to college am I going to still see her as my little baby? I mean really, it's like the kid in the pictures is not the same BABY I spend every waking hour with! My mind is playing tricks on me.
Anyway, happy birthday sweetie pie! We love you more than you'll ever know. xoxox

Oh! Believe me she will know, you two prove it every day on the blog. And John what a great blog, and you even managed to save her balloons! What a great cake!!!
Happy Birthday Sylvie!
Love, Aunt Edith
Yes, she'll ALWAYS be your little girl! And aren't you glad that it's that way. They grow up, (maybe leave home), but you can never forget how it all started. So, get prepared to learn that no matter how mature they become, in your heart and mind they're "your little girl". And, we wouldn't want it any other way, would we?
what a beautiful day! so special that you got those pics! Happy Birthday sweet pea!
happy second birthday to our favorite little buddy! we're very relieved that john averted a potentially catastrophic balloon-related incident.
looking forward to seeing you all soon!
