Made with love

A lot of you may know that we've been waiting to introduce peanut butter to Sylvie. John has a pretty bad macadamia nut allergy, and various doctors told us we should wait until Sylvie was 2 to introduce nuts of any kind. I've been so excited as her 2nd birthday approaches, because everyone knows that childhood and PB&J sandwiches go hand in hand! (And let's face it, trying to prepare lunches for her every day will be so much easier when I can make quick little sandwiches.) So sometime over the holiday Sylvie had her first intro to peanut butter, and it didn't go over that well. She just didn't like it. We've since tried a number of times, always with the same results. Then this morning I remembered something I read when Sylvie was a small baby and I was just starting her on solids, that the general rule of thumb is to introduce a new food at least 6-10 times before ruling it out for good, because sometimes it just takes that long for a child's taste buds to develop a liking for that particular food. I coupled that with another thing I just read a week or two ago on another parenting blog, about how this mother gets her child to eat all kinds of foods just by making them visually appealing. She uses cookie cutters to make star shaped sandwiches, doggy shaped mashed potatoes, etc. So today I busted out the PB&J and my heart shaped cookie cutter. And would you believe it, the girl LOVED her lunch!

She finished the first little heart sandwich in about 2 minutes and immediately followed me around the kitchen asking "more heart please mommy?!" So she had two sandwiches, and I ate the scraps from around each heart for my own lunch. :)

Here I like to think she's saying "hmmm....maybe you're not that bad afterall"

"I Love Ooo, Jiffff"

Good call on the heart-shaped sandwich, sweets!

Hee! Though I think it would probably sound more like:

"Ahh Luh Yewe Jifffff"

I especially love the first two pics with the upturned pinkie....how genteel.

I love her little sandwich! I think anyone would be tempted to try a sandwich shaped like that. I'm sure there are always little tricks people can use if they want someone to try different foods....
just the way it is presented could make a big difference. We sometimes give up too easily.

What a great camera shot of her reaching for the sammich! You are quite the talented one, dear daughter. And how cute is that outfit? Looks like something a 'meemah' would get! <--self praise in case ya didn't notice. And to top it all off, Le Bebe now eats PB&J! Life is good. xxoo
